FAQs
-
A birth doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to a birthing person and their family before, during, and after labor. Doulas offer non-medical support, focusing on comfort measures like massage and positioning, emotional reassurance, and evidence-based information to help birthing people make informed decisions. Essentially, a birth doula's goal is to empower and support a birth experience, however that looks for each individual. They do not provide medical advice or perform medical procedures. A birth doula’s role adapts with each family’s needs.
-
A postpartum doula provides support to families after the birth of a baby. This support focuses on the physical and emotional recovery of the birthing parent, newborn care, and family adjustment. Postpartum doulas offer practical help such as newborn feeding support, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and running errands. They can also provide evidence-based information on newborn care, postpartum health, and connect families with other resources. Their primary role is to nurture and support the entire family during the often-challenging postpartum period, helping them transition smoothly into parenthood. They do not provide medical advice.
-
Your partner's involvement is invaluable, and a doula complements their support, not replaces it. Think of it as having a team. Your partner can focus on providing love and emotional connection, while the doula offers professional expertise in birth and postpartum. A doula can offer your partner breaks, suggest helpful comfort techniques they might not know, and provide reassurance when things get intense. Doulas also have experience navigating the hospital environment and can help your partner advocate for your birth preferences. Ultimately, a doula enhances the experience for both of you, creating a more supported and positive birth.

My standard rates reflect my suggested fees, which we can discuss during our initial consult. I believe everyone deserves doula support, regardless of their financial situation. I'm happy to discuss sliding scale options or payment plans with anyone who needs them. If you're able to pay my full rate, please know that your generosity helps me provide services to families with limited resources through sliding scale and pro-bono work.
-
I'm passionate about supporting families through this transformative experience, and I bring a warm, compassionate, and down-to-earth approach to my doula work. I believe in the power of connection and strive to build a genuine and supportive relationship with each family I work with. I'm confident in my ability to provide the emotional and practical support you need to feel confident and empowered during your birth.
